ALPF Health Clinical Commissioning

Welcome

ALPF Health Clinical Commissioning has been set up by a group of like-minded GP practices across Ashton, Leigh and Wigan in order to commission new and improved local health services to the registered population served.

As locally working clinicians we already have a good informal sense of what individual patients would like. This we plan on clarifying and focusing further by use of Patient Participation Groups in every member practice. When combined with objective data from current and past activity, together with the voice of experienced working GPs and primary care staff it will allow plans to be defined. These plans will also be in line with PCT and national priorities, being focused down to a practice level.

We have 56 GPs covering 24 practices within the Wigan Borough. We work closely with NHS Ashton, Leigh & Wigan and a number of other partner organisations such as the Local Authority and associate members.

As services will be commissioned by a group of local working GPs, Nurses Managers and Patients, it will be ensured that there will be no unexpected surprises are left for practices to have to deal with as a result. The strategic priorities will be set by all members of the group, with operational issues being left to an elected executive who are responsive to their members. Internal communication amongst members will be a priority area
We are also the lead Consortium for Scheduled Care which is looking at developing new models of long-term condition management to help patients remain independent for longer and have more choice in their end of life care. Our participating practices and the Board have defined the purpose of ALPF Commissioning as ‘to improve the health of the practice populations it serves through Clinical leadership of change and investment’.

We need to continue to capitalise on our strengths which are:

  • Strong Clinical Leadership at all levels
  • A history of effective and cohesive clinical engagement
  • A history of a close and supportive relationship with our member practices
  • A history of patient engagement
  • A track record of innovative service redesign and financial control
  • Proven skills in effectively managing resources to achieve clinical outcomes
  • Build on the strength of General Practice to develop a powerful unified voice for the development of services for patients, and work with partners to create a sustainable local health economy

There is a genuine desire from our PCT for Clinical Commissioning to succeed. We believe this is a window of opportunity for us as the local Clinicians working together to finally influence what care is available in the Borough, to ensure it the most delivered to the highest possible standards to achieve best results whilst being in line with what everyone both wants and needs.

We would like you to join us and work with us on this exciting journey to produce a local healthcare service that being associated with will make us all proud.
